THE Chalet!
The one-piece on tour....

The GrandMaster shrugged off the cape and mask for a week and donned the one-piece. And where better to take the one-piece than the French Alps. Morzine to be exact, just an hour drive from Geneva, but on the French side of the Alps. And what a week it was.

The chalet we had booked was quite superb, this is not a bad pic (which I couldn't add here, so have posted it separately above as a teaser - check it out). It was a tough life coming back from a day on the slopes, jumping straight into the outdoor spa, waiting to be called for our three-course banquet. Of course, someone's got to do it!

Now we had to build up a hunger for these three-course meals and we certainly did this on the slopes. Most of the crew were out on snowboards, but when wearing a one-piece, you must do as the one-pieces do. And that means ski.

We had absolutely amazing snow - the stuff over here is so powdery. And we certainly had a lot of it - the couple who ran our chalet said it was the best snow they had seen in the 5 or so years they had been there. I don't know if I will ever enjoy NZ slopes again.

Incredibly though, the one-piece didn't stick out as much as you would think - but then again, there is no accounting for the tastes of those europeans. Here are a couple of choice pics of the one-piece in action....

Of course, when looking so stylish, it is always easy to make new friends on the slopes. We even managed to get this frosty friend back to the pad, but unfortunately he lost his head....

The B'Day Pub Crawl in St Albans....

Well, what better way for The GrandMaster to spend a sunny day in London than to leave it....esepcially when that destination is St Albans, a town with one of the largest concentration of pubs in all of England. Not only that, but it is also home to the HQ of CAMRA and was also recently rated as having the finest quality of cask ale in all of the UK by Cask Marque (with a 98% rating).

Of course, it wasn't all beer, there is some pretty good scenery along the way as well - the St Albans Cathedral was quite the picture.

Of course we were really there for the beer. The pick of the lot was definitely The Lower Red Lion. A fantastic array of beer, 6 varied ales on cask, and another 3 available through the cellar run. It was The GrandMaster's paradise!

The pick of the ales there, well that would have to be the Cottage GWR (Great Western Railway) Ale - a dark amber ale with a strong malty aroma and a delicious chocolate malt flavour.

Of course, with so many fine ales on offer there were sure to be some casualties towards the end of the night.

Though we manage to save the duck from its imprisonment at The Farmers Boy and he now comfortably resides at the Green-Watt household. Also the site that same night of the unveiling of the one-piece, which will be the subject of my next post....
